Please note that hot-swapping is only supported under Windows 98 / 98 SE. It is not supported under Windows NT/Me/XP/Vista/7. Some Linux distributions also support hot-swap IDE devices, but it is really, really not recommended. Unlike Serial ATA, which was specifically designed to do this, IDE hot-swap is an unsupported add-on that does not always work and can cause data loss and even drive failure .
